Successful 2023 financial year: PILLER with records in sales and order intake

The 2023 financial year was the most successful in the company's history for Piller Blowers & Compressors GmbH. The company achieved sales of 119.6 million euros and an order intake of 130.9 million euros. The year was also characterized by important decisions for the future and significant growth in the number of employees.

PILLER fiscal year 2023

[Moringen, June 25, 2024] In 2023, Moringer based Piller Blowers & Compressors GmbH continued the growth path of previous years. “We increased sales at group level by 24.5 percent to the record level of 119.6 million euros,” says Stephan Merkel, who manages the business at PILLER together with Christoph Böhnisch. In 2022, sales were still at 96.1 million euros. “The order intake was also around 5 percent higher and, at 130.9 million euros, were higher than ever before,” adds Christoph Böhnisch. This development is also reflected in the number of employees: PILLER created 52 new jobs last year at the Moringer location alone. At the beginning of this year, the company surpassed 500 employees worldwide for the first time, around 400 of whom work in Moringen.

Innovative technology for heat recovery in industry
“We benefit from a few key global trends here at our Moringen site and in all subsidiaries,” explains Christoph Böhnisch. “These include the growing and aging world population, rising energy costs in many regions and increasing social pressure to reduce CO2 emissions.” The innovative PILLER technology for heat recovery in the process industry is used in areas that are dealing with these challenges, for example in the food industry, in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, in petrochemicals, or in industrial wastewater treatment. “Our blowers and compressors specifically for Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) and vapor recovery significantly increase the energy efficiency in steam processes, which play a central role in many industries,” explains PILLER Managing Director Christoph Böhnisch. Up to 75 percent reduced energy requirements, CO2 savings of 60 percent in the processes and 90 percent energy cost savings for primary energy have already been proven.

Setting the course for the future
In order to be able to continue on its chosen growth path, PILLER set the course in 2023. Last year the decision was made to invest an amount in the low double-digit million range in several construction phases in the construction of an additional production hall, a warehouse as well as office and social rooms in Moringen over the next few years. The preparatory work is now underway. “We are aiming at expanding production capacities,” explains Stephan Merkel. “In doing so, we are also making a long-term commitment to the Moringen location and securing jobs.” With the founding of the subsidiary Piller Blowers & Compressors Australia Pty Ltd. at the beginning of the year and the decision made towards the end of 2023 to set up a production site in India, PILLER is pushing forward with internationalization. “We want to be close to our customers and produce in the region for the region. Here, too, it is all about expanding our capacities; jobs will not be relocated as a result of the measure.”

“We have also made important, forward-looking decisions for our product portfolio. With the sale of the hot gas circulator business last year, we are supporting the strategic focus on the steam compression sector,” emphasizes Christoph Böhnisch. “To do this, we translate market requirements into product innovations and drive development with continued investments in research and development in order to be able to serve the needs of our customers with broader areas of application for our machines.”
