For Christmas this year, PILLER is donating EUR 3,000 to the non-profit organization WaterAid, which works to ensure the supply of clean drinking water and appropriate sanitary facilities worldwide. The donation supports a project in the Indian city of Hyderabad.
„As a company, we not only see ourselves as responsible for our employees and our projects with our customers, but also for society,“ says Christoph Böhnisch, who manages the business of Piller Blowers & Compressors GmbH together with Stephan Merkel. „Because we are active worldwide, we not only support sports, social projects and other initiatives locally at our headquarters in Moringen, but also at our locations abroad.“ This year PILLER donated 3,000 Euros to the international non-profit organization WaterAid, which is committed worldwide to the supply of clean drinking water and appropriate sanitary facilities as the first measure against poverty. Founded in 1981, WaterAid is currently active in 28 countries in Africa, Asia and Oceania.
„We asked our colleagues in our branches for suggestions as to which organization this year's donation should go to at Christmas. In the end, we chose WaterAid,” explains technical director Christoph Böhnisch. In addition to the conviction that everyone should have access to clean drinking water and sanitary facilities, it was crucial that the money was used to support a specific project in Hyderabad, India. PILLER itself is represented with a joint venture in Pune, India.
The 3,000 Euros will flow into the construction or retrofitting of 25 hand washing stations in schools, day-care centers and health facilities in Hyderabad and the suburbs of the megacity. As part of the overall project, 21 institutions will benefit from the measures. In addition, WaterAid will improve water supply systems in 20 communities in the same areas. In addition to the infrastructure projects, training courses are offered on the core components of a comprehensive WASH program and campaigns are run to draw attention to the need for sustainable hand washing and other important hygiene measures. „We are pleased that we can help people gain access to things that we take for granted here,“ emphasizes commercial director Stephan Merkel.
